Get a scooter. 120+ mpg. $1500. I want one, but I don't my parents will get me one due to safety issues, even though they top out at like 40 mph.

tips on gas pumping to maximize your dollar

Post  muriel burk on Thu Jun 26, 2008 1:28 pm

got these from an old neighbor...never knew about these before...

Onl y buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the
ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have
their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground, the more
dense the gasoline. When it gets warmer, gasoline expands, so when buying in the
afternoon or in the evening, your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In
the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the
gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But
the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode.
If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high.
In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate,
some other liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are
being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less
worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL / HALF EMPTY.
The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank, less air is occupying its empty
space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage
tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between
the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service
stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature
compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when
you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline is being stirred
up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that &nbs p;
normally settles on the bottom. Hope this will help you get the most value
for your money.

more tips

Post  lingpiduh on Thu Jun 26, 2008 4:28 pm

To maximize your mileage
you can look at this thing called hyper mileing that Alan (the new guy that comes to church with us) was telling me about. Its the art of getting insane amounts of mileage on your car.

While not typical, the champion of a competition in hypermileing got 160 miles per gallon out of a toyota prius.
=O
some applications aren't so practical, like not braking around turns to maximize efficiency, or turning off your engine after you get close behind a semi and letting the air current pull you forward, but there are some good tips to maximize your mileage like avoid sudden acceleration and braking and i'm sure many other tips i haven't looked into since I don't drive T___T

Wow... THANKS!!

not braking on turns... uh... haha. i like the semi one.

another tip: get a business that involves a car.. then you can write off gas as a tax write off Razz

i got gas for 4.03 today. exciting! and if you get a car wash at the bp by my house.. its like 10 cents cheaper.. but then carwash.. for a good carwash.. it is like 8 bucks.. so it is even really worth it Question

also: taking the train is so much cheaper if you are going to chicago or something.. craziness. I wish there was a train directly to church.. then I wouldn't have to drive so much.. but.. carpooling works too =]

someone should develop alcohol/ethanol/methanol powered engines that don't erode
or we should all just ask for the gift of teleportations
like philip
so we don't even need gas
i wonder though if it's possible to collide with someone while you're teleporting

until then though.. i'd like a toyota prius-plus
or a horse
or be serena william's served tennis ball so I can go 130 mph

if i made enough money (or any for that matter) this would so not be an issue until there is no more gasoline
then i would simply burn my money to make fire
and not go anywhere

roddick

Post  lingpiduh on Tue Jul 01, 2008 2:34 pm

actually roddick serves faster, i think he has the fastest serve which is why he was a big name since he could ace even pros. Sadly the rest of his game isn't that good if you take out his serving ability which is why he never wins anything -___-

but yes, if i was a tennis ball it would be nice to have free 130mph transportation and be green and fuzzy.

Teleporting would be awesome, except if you recombined with someone when you were reappearing and thus suddenly turned into a mixed person. Like if grace was teleporting to the same place as serena williams, and grace's head got stuck on serena william's body. That would be very....interseting.

apparently there have been a lot of alternate, cheaper fueled cars (like electrically driven cars) developed but have been scrapped by the car companies/gas companies because they don't want to lose their money. :'(

Yeah. Roddick's serves are are around 140-145 mph. He only has a strong forehand and serve. His backhand is weak.

wow that's fast >.>

and definitely rather unfortunate about the electric cars...they're just too expensive and most ppl cant afford them.. so any margin on those would be slim while price is high = exit market XD
